Kabul Zoo

May 6th, 2009 (08:50 am)

Saw an article on the Kabul Zoo putting their pig in isolation. But that's not the good part. The good part is this, from a section about the zoo's problems during the 1992-94 civil war:

One fighter climbed into the lion enclosure but was immediately killed by Marjan, the zoo's most famous inhabitant. The man's brother returned the next day and lobbed a hand grenade at the lion leaving him toothless and blind.

Hard to tell which one was stupider: the one that got killed, or the one that tried to take revenge on an animal.

Bird Brain

The one with revenge, because it was sustained stupidity in order to obtain the grenade and bring it to the zoo the next day.

Oh, for a moment I thought the poor, innocent, lion was left blind and toothless!

Glad to hear it was the stupid guy ending up without, since he worked so hard to earn his lack of teeth and sight! It's too bad the guy was left with breeding potential. The elimination of that family line sounds like it would have strongly improved the human gene pool!

I think that's what it says, actually. Uh...yes, that's what the lion's Wikipedia article says happened.

I vote for the first brother (as being the stupider one). He climbed into the cage to prove his manliness, and petted (or tried to pet) both lions. That took more effort than lobbing a grenade, and it's both sustained stupidity and provably deadly dangerous.

Yeah, I'll buy that.
