current mood: puzzled

My kids have been collecting Pokemon cards for a while, but not playing the game. Sometimes a friend at school will give one away; once E bought a booster pack. So they've got a bunch to look at, but not really enou to play with. So I gave them each a starter deck for Christmas.

They were thrilled. But they don't want to play the game; they just want to treat the cards as interesting treasures. So, right now, they're reading over their cards, trading them, comparing stats—but without any real idea of what those stats mean in the game.

Sigh.

Why do they have to use it as designed?

Sometimes treasure just needs to be hoarded!

Would you feel better if they were collecing baseball cards, which have no game associated?

Maybe they'll invent their own game!

kids

My kids did the same, even after they had played Magic for a while and thus clearly understood the concept. Apparently, the critters are just more appealing as critters than as game mechanisms.
