The Clone War: not that bad, really

November 29th, 2008 (06:55 pm)
current mood: bemused

We just watched The Clone War, which I'd heard really bad things about—and it actually wasn't that bad. It's not fantastic, but it probably ranks more or less with Episodes I-III.

The animation brings it down, though. A big part of the impact of any Star Wars movie is the special effects; and the stylized chunky look of The Clone War drops out so much detail that it's just not impressive enough. Count Dooku is especially bad; that expressive face, which can look sombre, regretful, trustworthy, and sinister, is replaced by a cone with a beard.

I'm glad I didn't pay theatre prices for it, and I'm not sure I'll buy the DVD (we got it from Netflix); but I did enjoy it.

Which were rather bad, aside from the great visuals. So I suppose I agree with you.
