Job hunt optimism

July 20th, 2004 (07:56 pm)
hopeful

current mood: hopeful

Well, I'm definitely a lot more optimistic than I was this morning. jdulac gave me the names of several headhunters, and all of them called me back and seemed very positive. Two had specific positions in mind for me (although one of them couldn't name the company yet; she hasn't signed a contract with them). I've refined my professional Web page somewhat (e.g., switching the email username from "francis" to "jstracke", and providing a Word version, ick, of the résumé).

I've got some too - give me a call tonight or today, and I'll pass them along. http://www.blackbirdstaffing.com is one that I can firmly recommend. Joanne Faille. Tell her I sent you - that'll help.

I plan to bring in your info when I start my new job at http://www.nellymoser.com in two weeks, too.

...interesting. Oh, and hey, I might have met a couple of the founders, when they were at Voxware and I was at Netscape; I was in on the decision to license their codecs. Thanks!

I pointed Sophia Navikas (a headhunter I've dealt with a little in the past, who has a good reputation) in your direction. Hopefully she'll contact you soon...

Thanks! Yes, she called me yesterday; she's now submitted me to three different jobs, though all of them are borderline (they mostly want J2EE, which I could learn, but don't have yet). Having checked my references, she said it was frustrating: these were clearly jobs I could do, just not necessarily jobs I could get.
