Found a job...sort of

current mood: hopeful

Well. I've already got a job lined up. A friend of mine is starting up a company in the social networking space, focusing on the family. (And, no, I can't say anything else yet. :-) I'm going to be joining him...unless the funding falls through. He's been working on it, he's got some money lined up, and he expects to have the last (and largest) chunk by the end of February. He'll pay me a salary before launch, though, to cover the time between when my severance runs out and when the company actually launches.

The company is in Philadelphia, but I won't have to move; I'll be working remotely, probably with some sort of microoffice in or near Chelmsford. (Anybody know how to look for such things? My first thought is to call the local Chamber of Commerce.)

It's a risk, but it's one that I think should pay off. The plan looks good, the opportunity is huge, and the CEO is experienced. He just sold his previous company, which he'd been building for 2.5 years, and walked away with multiple millions.

I still need to negotiate salary and such, though; and it still could fall through. So I'm still going to carry on with my job search.

Congratulations, and I hope it works out well! I'll be curious to hear about it when you can talk -- the social networking space is very much where I live, and I'm always interested to hear what folks are doing there. (I can also provide some kibitzing of the ideas and plans, if you'd like: by now, I've gotten fairly good at pointing out where the holes are in these things, since I've been focused on social tools for so many years. It's actually what I did this afternoon, at one startup that's trying to hire me...)

As soon as I can. :-)

So you want to rent office space? There are companies that do exactly that. You can get the space with or without administrative amenities in most situation. A lot of sales reps do that when they chose not to have their office in their home.

I hope the CoC has some local suggestions for you.
