Found someone to be my outside reader

August 18th, 2006 (04:25 pm)

current mood: relieved

As I posted a few months ago, I need three readers for my master's thesis, preferably including someone from outside the department. I was stumped for a long time on where to find the outside reader. Today, I happened to write Bob Dugan (an old friend from eCal, now a CS professor at Stonehill College) about something else, and asked him if knew anybody suitable…and he volunteered! I hadn’t thought microkernels were near his area of interest; I knew him as a performance specialist. In hindsight, though, it’s not so surprising; at eCal, he was getting really deep into the system to analyze the performance (as in, monitoring the traffic over the IDE bus…I think).

It’ll be nice to work with him again; and it’ll be interesting to get his viewpoint on PackOS, since I expect it to have, ah, challenges when it comes to performance.

Oooh, congrats!

Was this a success via LinkedIn, or other?

Bob Dugan

He's someone I worked with at eCal and Centive. You remember, we saw The Fellowship of the Ring with him and his wife. We had a job opening, and I asked him if he had any students he could recommend; and then I remembered about the reader.
