Finished the puzzle

Tonight I cut out the puzzle for the kids. Lessons learned:

  • Cutting curves in foam board with an X-Acto knife is infeasible. I wound up using diamond and wedge shapes instead of the standard bumps of jigsaw puzzles.
  • Foam board is too thick; it's probably going to be a struggle for the kids to assemble. Cynthia has explained to me what she meant by "art foam" in her comment last November; maybe I'll try that next.

Some pictures: the box and the finished puzzle, cut up and then assembled:

screw up

The easiest way to cut foam-board is with a hot wire; they're sold in most crafts stores. A coping saw or scroll saw also works but can get messy, depending on the foam, and in any case is a bit slower.
