Toddler Composition

A couple of weeks ago, Elizabeth asked me to sing "the seahorse song". "I don't know the seahorse song. What's it about?" No answer.

About a week later, though, she mentioned it again, and this time it occurred to me to ask, "Did you make it up?" "Yes." "Can you sing it to me?" And she did:

When the seahorses fly at night
They fly into their beds
And they wish that you were there
To tuck them into bed.

(There were a few more lines, too, but they became harder to follow.)

write it down. Illustrate the first verse. Remember that you sing them silly little songs.

No, no--Elizabeth made it up, and sang it.

(OK, we do sing them silly little songs, but that's not as surprising. :-)

He might put it on a T-shirt. We have a lot of fun with the iron-ons you can print from an inkjet.
