Princess Bride meme

October 12th, 2008 (10:53 am)

Gakked from ppfuf:

Post your favorite line from The Princess Bride. Preferably not "As you wish" or "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya...".

This is actually pretty hard. I think my favorite in terms of how it works in the movie is "I'm not left-handed.". But there are others that are more useful to quote, such as "Go through his pockets and look for loose change." and "Have fun storming the castle!". And my favorite sequence in the movie doesn't yield a quotable line: it's the bit culminating in "Drop your sword.".

Sleepy-Good in bed-Sleep for days

I don't envy you the headache you're going to have, but in the meantime, sleep well, and dream of large women!

just one?

I use "I am not left-handed" every time I start with a new batch of beginning fencers, because of course, I *am* left-handed, and they need to watch my examples as if they were looking in a mirror.

I had a student ask me last week, with a perfectly straight face, what I would think if someone came up to me and said, "You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

But probably my general purpose favorite line must be... Oh dear, the entire Battle of Wits.

Most quoted around our house, various parts of: "You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia,' but only slightly less well known is this: 'Never go in against a Sicilian when *death* is on the line!' Ha ha ha ha --"

And of course, there's: "Truly, you have a dizzying intellect."
