Who, me? [userpic]

W.

July 13th, 2004 (08:21 am)

I was thinking about George III the other day, and how he's consistently failed up. Every time one of his businesses was in trouble, family friends helped make a deal that got him a bigger business. He failed in a run for Congress in 1978; his next political office was governor. He bailed out of the governership just before his tax cuts ruined the state; he lost the presidential election, but got rescued by his father's appointees on the Supreme Court.

And then it occurred to me that there's a great icon for someone who's built his career on failure:

Yes, that's right: the W. stands for Wally!

Meaning that we're living in Wally Word? Well...the country *does* seem like enough of an incompetently-run amusement park anymore that I can buy that....

So, is the PHB Cheney, or Rove?

Let's see. Rove is actually pretty sharp. Unpleasant, possibly even psychotic, but sharp.

Cheney...Cheney's people skills are too low to be the PHB.

If I may drop into cynical mode for a moment, I think maybe the PHB is the electorate: nominally in charge, but too apathetic, and too ignorant, to exercise their power in any useful way.
