Sharon's withdrawal

OK, so Ariel Sharon is withdrawing from Gaza and parts of the West Bank. He claims he's doing it as a unilateral move to jump-start the peace process. I keep thinking, though, that he may have a military purpose in mind: once there are no Israelis in the disputed lands, he can bomb them with impunity.

I don't have any real evidence, of course, but consider this: if his goal is peace, why is he tearing down the vacated Israeli settlements? Turning over those existing homes to the Palestinians would be a nice goodwill gesture to use in peace negotiations.

Ick.

I never thought of the possibility of bombing. John, you're scarier than I am.

Re: Ick.

Mmm. What I thought of first was nukes, but that's really unlikely; the fallout would cover the whole country. Israel's nukes are probably for Samson-smash use only.
