Truly bizarre looking-for-roommate ad

April 5th, 2005 (04:12 pm)
current mood: boggled

One of my cube neighbors found this at Craig's List. Absolutely mind-bogglingly finicky. A short subset of his requirements: no newspapers, magazines, cats, paints, cellphone ringtones, music, curry, shopping for fruits or vegetables, or speaking French, Urdu, or Afrikaans.

Kids silly nose

Or maybe just a joke?

Interesting way for him to select for racial background (no curry, no Urdu...). But what's with the newspapers and magazines?

Oh, if you read the whole thing, you'll see he's all over the map. I don't think he's being racist; he's just pathologically obsessive-compulsive.

If it's not a joke, it's hardly surprising that the previous roomates didn't work out.

Although the list does remind me of someone's laundry list of who they will and will not date -- that sort of person usually doesn't have things work out either.

Yeah, that was what I thought I was hearing when my neighbor started reading it aloud.

Makes sense to me...

He doesn't need the money, he needs someone around occasionally. I would consider this as a room, depending on the location; I'd negotiate a little more on basics such as cleaning, food storage/leftovers, etc. The price is good...and he's really really clear--no irritants.

Betcha money that he gets a roomie...

Re: Makes sense to me...

I'm sure he will ($300 in Beverly Hills?), but I'm also sure he'll find something to dislike about them pretty quickly.

Maybe it's a complex psych experiment.

maleficent

Or at least a "complex" of some variety....

The really odd thing is that he says he wants the company, then he puts so many restrictions in that the person really can't interact with him in any normal way. He needs a pet, except he's clearly too neurotic for anything more involved than a plush animal.
